Between the modules, charts, videos, and audio recordings, I was able to learn through a variety of ways which made my studying a lot more manageable. WOW. I highly recommend using this program before you waste $500-$1,000 studying other material. I am an older student and I took the NBCOT® twice and failed both times using Therapy Ed® book and CD. I knew the information, but was not answering the questions the way I needed to in order to be successful. Pass the OT presented the information in a different way and I was able to break down each question and make the correct choice. I went from a 427, to a 431 studying with Therapy Ed® to a 468 in four weeks using the Silver package and 4 tutoring session with Sarah. After taking the exam previously and learning I did not pass was devastating. I took the Therapy Ed course, purchased multiple practice examination textbooks, and used flash cards. I could not understand where I was going wrong. I even reached out to the college I graduated from and that was a dead end. Stephanie Shane was kind to take the time to speak with me by phone to provide her suggestions. I took the 7 week course with a tutoring session at the end of each week. The tutor I worked with was Kim. She was amazing and extremely professional. So that you do not get overwhelmed, It is important to master one topic at a time and then move on to the next topic.

Using diagrams, charts, audio recordings, and videos can make learning complex material much easier, Furthermore, we highlight the most important study material that most often occurs on the exam. Listening to audio recordings that are on all the most important topics on the exam allows you to listen while in the car, working out, or taking a stroll in the park.Games can also make studying more interesting help you retain information better.

Since 50% of the actual exam is based on clinical applications, it is most important that you focus on the clinical applications and the rationale behind the questions. If you get a question wrong, think about why the answer is correct and how the other answer choices would be correct in a different situation. Reviewing incorrect questions is one of the most important facets of studying. Appropriate time should be put into it.

Use timed and untimed quizzes after all the key topic areas that simulate the actual test.We have found that if students don’t test themselves with quizzes that are similar to the NBCOT® exam with the added pressure of time, when it comes to the actual test, they aren’t ready for it from a stamina or pressure standpoint.

Using a 200 question or 100 question timed assessment test that mimics the actual exam and analyzes your results to show the sections to concentrate your efforts on allows you to study more efficiently. You should study your weakest topics first, gradually working your way to your strongest. This will reduce your test anxiety as well as increase your confidence as you get closer to the actual exam. It will also give you more time to learn the information that tends to be more difficult.

Using a quick reference guide like the one below can also make finding the topics you are wanting to learn so much easier.

Working one-on-one with a a certified OTR® and/or COTA® professional, who goes through extensive training and has a proven track record, can make a tremendous impact in your test preparation and on your performance on the exam. A tutor can test your critical thinking, go through interventions related to different topics, help you break down questions especially when two answer choices seem correct, hold you accountable, build your confidence, reduce test anxiety, and give you that extra push. They also can make sure that you clearly understand the questions that are being asked as well as the clinical reasoning behind the answers.
