If you’re about to begin preparing for the NBCOT® Exam, chances are, you’re dreading the experience. We totally understand…we’ve been there.

Can studying for this exam ever be fun? Not in the true sense of the word “fun”, but at least it can be more enjoyable than you think it could be.

Making studying enjoyable not only increases your motivation to start the process of studying but it also makes the time that you have to spend waiting to write the exam, go by much faster.

Studying can definitely be grueling! You would never normally associate this adjective (grueling) with fun–until now….Here are some ways to make studying as fun as it is productive.

Move around: Movement = blood flow = oxygen= brain activation.
You don’t have to be stuck behind a desk for hours at a time…..move around while you learn. Listen to the Pass the OT audio recordings while doing activities that you enjoy like: exercising, running, and even walking in the park. This can really make studying much more pleasurable.

Use a reward system: Reward yourself for work well done. Acknowledge your achievements and celebrate your progress. Reward yourself with a well-deserved break to catch up on your Netflix viewing or have a solo dance party. That extra incentive will motivate you to stay on your A-Game, yet also give you some much needed breaks.

Rewrite material with your own flair: Writing notes in your unique style not only makes referring to them at a later stage easier, but you will be learning as you write them. Make them colorful and use your own methods of remembering details. You are the only one who knows what works for you.
Use songs to learn content: Make up a song about content that you find challenging to learn and sing it to your favorite song. Sing about the origins and insertions of the hand muscles. You can even sing your “Number 1 hit”, in the shower.
Connect difficult content to things that you care about and learning will be a much faster and more enjoyable process.

Proof that it works- A song that is hard to forget:
The foot bone’s connected to the leg bone.
The leg bone’s connected to the knee bone.
The knee bone’s connected to the thigh bone.
Doin’ the skeleton dance.

Use games for learning: Pass the OT offers our students great games. By playing these games, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the content, not just the basic knowledge. You’ll get instant feedback on your progress, so you know which content you need to focus more on. There are fabulous matching games to help you learn about hands and splints, the code of ethics, and frames of reference. These are guaranteed to keep you engaged and entertained as you continue to learn. There are many opportunities to see the content in different ways, and the engaging nature of the games ensures that you learn the content to your personal best.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to making studying for the NBCOT® Exam fun. At Pass the OT we are committed to helping our students succeed.

There is no doubt that the content in the web course will not only help more students pass, but it will also help colleges and universities improve their first-time passing rates.

Nothing can beat that feeling of passing the NBCOT® Exam!
