A patient with Myasthenia Gravis is currently living at a long-term care facility and has difficulty with dysphagia and self-feeding. What additional supports can the OT provide to the nursing staff to promote assisted self-feeding for the patient?
=> Have the nursing staff watch a feeding session with the patient
=> Ask the aides to write a detailed report about the patient’s mealtime skills
=> Give a detailed verbal explanation to the aides about what the patient can and cannot do
=> Allow the aides to participate in an interactive observation feeding session and provide them with instructional handouts

Allow the nursing assistants to participate in an interactive observation feeding session and provide them with instructional handouts. All other options are passive learning approaches while interactive sessions with supplemental handouts promotes carryover.
